Every item type accepts a different set of enchantments. The tables below list exactly which enchantments apply to each item in Minecraft 26.2, with their maximum level, pulled from the active versioned dataset. Newly added enchantments appear after that release passes our data sync and verification checks. Once you have picked a loadout, drop it into the enchantment calculator to get the cheapest anvil order.

A handful of enchantments are worth chasing on almost anything that supports them: Mending (uses collected XP to repair durability before the item breaks), Unbreaking (multiplies durability), and the protection or damage enchantment appropriate to the item. Treasure enchantments such as Mending are commonly applied from books, so plan the combine carefully — see how enchanting works.

“Applicable” is not always “best”

The versioned lists answer the objective compatibility question: what the game permits on each item and what maximum level it supports. The best loadout still depends on what you do. A general-purpose sword values broad damage and durability, while a specialized weapon may trade that damage type for an enchantment aimed at a particular mob. Likewise, Silk Touch and Fortune solve different mining tasks even though both belong on the same tool type. Use the explorer to build a legal set, then choose between conflicts based on the job rather than treating the longest possible list as automatically optimal.

How to compare two item types

Select a build item and a comparison item above. The summary separates shared enchantments from those unique to either item, while the search narrows the active build without changing the underlying counts. Treasure and curse switches control visibility only. Selecting an enchantment adds its normal maximum level; incompatible choices are disabled and identify the enchantment causing the conflict.

Once the selection matches your use case, Optimize anvil order carries the item, edition and selected levels to the calculator through a shareable URL. The calculator validates those parameters again before computing a plan, so manually edited or stale query values cannot silently create an impossible loadout.

Common conflict decisions

  • Sharpness, Smite or Bane of Arthropods: choose one damage family for the weapon and mobs you expect to fight.
  • Fortune or Silk Touch: choose between increased drops and collecting the block itself; many players keep separate tools.
  • Infinity or Mending: on a bow, choose renewable ammunition convenience or XP-based durability repair.
  • Depth Strider or Frost Walker: boots cannot use both, so choose movement through water or temporary ice creation.
  • Protection variants: general Protection covers broad use, while the specialized variants trade breadth for stronger mitigation against one damage category.

Levels shown here are the normal maximums supplied by the active game dataset. Commands can create unusual combinations or levels beyond survival limits, but that does not make them obtainable from a table, book or normal anvil workflow. The explorer intentionally models ordinary compatible builds; use the give command generator when the goal is a command-created custom item instead.

Mutually exclusive enchantments (for example Sharpness, Smite and Bane of Arthropods, or the four armor protection types) can’t all go on one item — the calculator disables conflicting picks automatically and computes the cheapest order for whatever you choose. To understand the experience cost behind that order, see how anvil cost is calculated.
